Yes, I know, that time, Covid19 starts to rise and making many people anxious, and some of us even doing something that so unnecessary (like hoarding items we usually don't care before, that makes the people that actually need it now have difficulty to get it). Surgical masks that before Covid almost taken-for-granted item, now became a rare one and people start to search for a substitution mask.

Back to the comments that I found on the page. apparently, some people felt that my mask pattern will do harm to them, or maybe they try to prevent people do harm to themselves if they make this mask pattern. But what makes me sad was they decided to leave blunt comments that quite sound rude if the words being voiced.

The accusations made me want to explain about the pattern itself. Because really, this pattern does not have any connection with Covid19. It published years ago and even created more years back. I first made it for my husband in 2010 as first anniversary gift.

So I decided to write a disclaimer related to the pattern on the March,18th, that everyone can read when they visiting the page on Ravelry or Etsy.

I release this pattern back in 2017. The background of it was from my personal need. I am riding a motorcycle on a daily basis. I always need a mask to cover me from road dust and heat on the roads (also seek warm from the night wind). Sometimes I also want to cover my face when I have to go to public spaces (like a mall or social events). And since I am not sick, I feel that using a disposable surgical mask kind of a waste (I prefer to use them when I truly sick, because that’s the true function of the mask and it only can be used once). I also have a tendency to always touch my nose, so this mask really a big help for me to prevent me touch my own face. I frequently wash my knitted mask with my other clothes in the washing machine too to keep it always clean and fresh.

So, this mask is more to cover your face from dust, sun, cold weather or to cover your face without any particular medical reason. Like a knitting scarf, balaclava, or cowl.

About corona prevention:
in where I live now, I also one of the people that not fortunate enough to get a standard mask supply. So if you are fortunate to get hold of them, please only use them when you really need them since they are rare items now. Like I read on WHO site: the most effective way to protect yourself against Covid-19 is: frequently clean your hands, cover your cough with the bend of elbow or tissue, and maintain a distance of at least 1 meter (3 feet) from people who are coughing or sneezing.

I now bring hand sanitizer everywhere (this also became a rare item in my place), and always wash my hand with water and soap after doing almost anything. I also eat vitamin and herbs to maintain my immune system. And go out when I need it not when I want it.

I also try to help by giving some discount on the pattern, since I cannot make it free. My husband is a freelancer working from home and I am a full-time knitter. I try to help contribute to my family's income by selling knitting patterns I created. I am always thankful for every pattern sales. It will give our family foods to eat and rents and bills being paid.

Thank God, for the knitter that wants free mask patterns, can visit this page made by knittingpattern.org that diligently compiling great mask patterns for us to knit!

Now, using a cloth mask became mandatory if we want to go outside our house (for example grocery shopping). Many people take this as an opportunity to make and sell their handmade masks. But half of them also just make the mask without deep though of the function and comfort and jumped in for the easy money.

After tried couple of homemade cloth masks I bought online, my husband declared that the most comfortable one is the knitting mask I made for him. So I now try to make more for us and using the cloth mask I bought before as lining.

For you all knitter and crafter out there. It's very lucky that we can make ourselves what we need. We can make what we want with the exact specification we wanted too.

So if you can and have the time, make and make more. For ourselves and for people around us.

Don't forget to always be kind in what we write to others (especially if we do not know them personally). Remember that we are facing a real person behind the screen, that absolutely also have feeling like you. So try to talk gently and politely.

Always be careful, keep your health, and always be happy.

May us all survive this time together!

Annual migration in my country just finished, and everything start back to normal.

Every year, when Eid Mubarak come, there will be e very long holiday. Everything essensial will closed, including offices and post/shipping. And almost everyone will traveling back to where their parents live. Including me.

For almost 2 weeks I barely touch my laptop. The first week, I preparing for my yarn's store closing, looking for tickets to our parents home, and then actually went home. Then when I finally can open my yarn store again, my assistants still couldn't back for another week for family matters. So me and my husbands had to deals with every online orders for a week.

Then, I am feeling guilty for absently posting new pattern in last June. So this month I posted 2 patterns. And as an apology for last month's absent, I decided to make one of the pattern, free only for today (12 to 13 July 2017).

And as usual, I give the patterns I uploaded this July, big discount (flat price $1.5) until end of the month, before they come back to their original prices.

I never realized that I'm not posting in this blog too long to my liking. I even not updating every time I upload new pattern on my Ravelry! #shock

So, I think it's fair if I wrap all my pattern releases at 2016 here in this one post. I surprised that I quite productive in 2016. I hope I can be more productive in this year too. #aameen

I think I should regularly posting in the blog at least once a month. I already making plan (since last year actually) for sharing some of my patterns for free, making review of knitting books, beside posting about my pattern releases. I also planning for release at least one pattern every month. Wish me can fulfill these plan smoothly without slacking. #mybadhabit

In the end of 2016, I also gather my gut and open a pattern shop at etsy too and now waiting for the first sale #fingercrossing.

And now I getting interested in Patreon. This platform really new to me. Do you know how to use it (or already have experiences) as creator?

Happy new year everyone! Sending every good hope for you all. :D
Sometimes ago I made my first commissioned big blanket. It takes months to finished, because I knitted it based on mood and time I had. I wanted this blanket reflect my happy mood only.

I used a baby blanket knitting pattern for the basic pattern. Then, continue to knit it until I reached the size I wanted.

Here are some photos I collect in between work back then:
I want to knit something in summer vacation theme. Want it made in DK cotton yarn and want to knit it fast. I found that this pattern looks like can be a perfect example.

I actually already save this free knitting pattern from years ago. But never knit it, until now.

This free knitting pattern come in two version, one of them using 8 mm knitting needle. I made the version made in 4 mm knitting needle.

I knit this bikini top only in one day. And found that making this is very addictive one too. I want to make more. XD
I made these cute things for someone who want to give these to his friend who will going to cold climate country.

But I found that this little thing is very fun to make and addictive. Also can be used even if you live in warm climate country like mine. For example, when you ride a motorcycle. It can block the cold night wind that make your nose itchy and runny. Haha.

So, here is the free knitting pattern I used to knit these cute nose warmers.
Hi again! :D

Even I practically living in a yarn shop, it is still rare to find a man who like to knit or crochet and openly come and hang out in a yarn shop. I can count them with my fingers in my hands.

So there is a man named Wili. Introduced to me as a friend of my other knitter friend, that not have a problem to hang out and crocheting or knitting in a yarn shop full of girls.
And already making amigurumi of my favorite character for me using free crochet pattern that I found in Ravelry, twice!

Here are his works and the free crochet patterns that he used to make these cute amigurumis:
But I know that making this in crochet will be easier and less time consuming than making this in knitting.

So I leave my comfort zone and choose this cute free crochet pattern to make.

this coasters are unblocked yet

I am not a crocheter. I've learned crochet stitches for knowledge purpose only, so I applauded myself for succeeding making this coaster quite tidy. But I still cannot make them in same size. Some are bigger than the others. T.T

I am blessed as one of knitters who can convert my knitting into written pattern. I know many of my knitter friends who have difficult time to actually making knitting/crochet pattern.

For my opinion, the key is do not overthinking and just do it (or I should say write it). Don't be afraid to make many mess. Sketches, formulas, words.. I usually grab any paper near me (usually shopping receipts that scattered around my desk and in my wallet) to writing before I forget.

Here are steps I usually do everytime I want to make new knitting or make knitting pattern.

1. Choose one Idea.
I know ideas are always overflowing and want to be picked first. I always choose one of that many that I most interested with (because knitting with happy heart is alway better), or with the easiest-to-get resources.

2. Quick choose the yarn and needle.
Many yarns out there. I bet every knitter already have one or two most favorite yarn to use. I usually using one kind of yarn in many of my knittings. This can save time from window shopping looking many yarns and also from choosing wrong yarn.

3. Sketch the finished picture and imagine how it done.
Put your imagination into picture. No need to be an artist with beautiful drawing, it is enough as long as you can understand your own drawing. We make it for ourselves.
And in the process, you can imagine how that drawing to be done, what books you will open, what stitches you will use, where you use them, etc. Yeah.. let that mind flying while your finger drawing.

4. Researching
Yep, we need researching. Find any basic pattern that close with what you want to do. Example : you want to make a design of beret hat, so find some basic beret hat pattern for reads. Open your stitches book, designing book, patterns stash, etc as you see fit. And take a note or compile the findings which you see fit with your finished picture's sketch into one corner of your work desk to be opened later.

This is when I made Edge of the Woods

5. Write basic draft of the pattern
make the swatch and then determine how many cast on, how many rows, where the stitches should be, where the colors should be, etc etc enough so you can start to make the sample knitting.

6. Actually knit it (while writing/drafting the pattern)
I am a kind of designer who like to make sample pattern together with drafting the pattern. I don't use my nice notebook in this part, and usually recycle any paper scattered around me (shopping receipt, back of used paper, etc) but will always make sure them in one safe place (usually in project bag together with the yarns I use to make sample knitting)

7. Writing the pattern for yourself
While you admiring the knitting sample you freshly finished, now is your time gathering all notes and draft you make, and tidying them into one coherent pattern in your notebook for yourself. So it's up to you to use any language or any writing method you like, as long as you will understand anytime you reopen the notebook. You don't have to care if your knitter friend open the book and don't understand what you write in there. The notes is only for you. So if someday you want to remake the knitting again, you just have to open the notebook.

8. Writing for others
This step only be done if you want others to use your pattern too (free or not). Try to put yourself in other knitter shoes and imagine what kind of knitting pattern they/you like to follow and read, then try to rewrite your pattern in that way. After that you can show it into other fellow knitter(s) you know and trust to ask for feedback and also to test knit it. Along with the time and experiences, you will find your own writing style.
This pattern was born because I joined a 5 days knit design challenge held by ArohaKnits. Without any expectations I happily joined this online workshop just because I never join any online workshop or webinar before. 100% curiosity.

I never expected that short workshop will resulted in this beautiful cowl pattern.

So here you are, as my gratitude, I give special 40% discount until end of May 2016 with code= woods

I hope you enjoy the pattern :)
